REOPENING OF MASSES
ST. MARY OF THE ASSUMPTION PARISH, LAWRENCE

With great joy we announce that we have reopened Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish in Lawrence for public Masses. We had Masses last weekend (May 30th & 31st, 2020) and everything went very well.

Daily Masses at 12 pm (English) and 6:30 pm (Spanish) will begin, God willing, on June 8, 2020, both in the Church.

You should know that we have taken all the precautionary and security measures recommended by the Archdiocese of Boston to offer you a safe and adequate place for the celebration of Holy Mass. Both the gym and the Church have been cleaned and disinfected. This cleaning and disinfection is also done after each Mass. Maintaining the required 6-foot safety distance between individuals / families, the total number of people who can attend Mass between the Church and the gym is about 500 people.

The SCHEDULE OF WEEKEND MASSES in the coming weeks will be as follows:

Regarding the Mass Schedule please pay attention to the following:

1.- There will be simultaneous Masses in the Gym on Sunday at 8:00 am & 12:30 pm.

2 .- We have moved the Sunday 10:30 am Mass to 10:00 am and the 12:15 pm Mass to 12:30 pm in order to have enough time to clean up between Mass and Mass.

please pay attention to these important notes:

-All those who come to Mass are responsible for bringing and wearing a mask, they must keep the safety distance of 6 feet at all times and are invited to bring their own hand sanitizer (children under 2 years are exempt from wearing mask; children between 2-5 years, it is at the discretion of the parents; people with respiratory problems are also exempt from wearing the mask)

-The Church and gym will open half an hour before Mass and will close just after parishioners have left. This will allow us to clean and disinfect both gym and Church after each Mass.

-The only entrance to the Church will be through the main entrance (Hampshire St). At the end of Mass, there will be two exits, through the side doors (Haverhill st and Bradford St). (Only people in wheelchairs or disabled people will be allowed to use the door of the Haverhill st as entrance / exit)

-The only entrance to the gym will be through White st (back of the gym) and the exits are through the side doors (Haverhill st and Lebanon St).

-Once you enter, please follow the instructions of the volunteers who will show you your seat in the Church or gym.

-During Mass, please keep the mask on at all times. According to the instructions given by the Archdiocese, there should be no congregational singing by the people during this time.

-Children are not allowed to run through the hallways nor should they be allowed to go to the bathroom alone.

-There will be no entrance or offertory procession. The basket will not be passed during the collection time either. Instead, everyone is invited to leave their offering in the offering box at the Church / Gym exits. We thank everyone for your generosity.

-During this time the sign of peace is omitted.

-For Communion we will do as follows: there will be no procession; everyone will stay at their place and the priest or minister will come to your place to give you Communion. Those who are to receive Communion stand up, take off their mask, and reverently receive Communion in the hand. When the priest or minister presents you the consecrated host and says: "the Body of Christ", you respond with a silent, non-voiced “Amen”. Consume the consecrated host and immediately put on the mask. There is no distribution of the Blood of Christ at this time.

- At the end of Mass, please wait to receive instructions from the priest and volunteers on how to leave in an orderly manner. People should avoid congregating in the back of church or the exits.

-The dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass continues at this time. People who are vulnerable due to advanced age or illness or medical complications are encouraged to stay home and watch the Mass on television.

-We also ask you to attend Mass only once on the weekend. That is, if you come on Saturday, do not return on Sunday (or vice versa) as space is limited. Always think of others.

-We know that it is not the usual way we are used to celebrate Holy Mass, but we must adapt to the circumstances. We trust that everyone can collaborate on these guidelines in order to carry out the Mass in a safe and orderly manner.

-This is a learning experience, it might be that we need to adapt some other things as we see fit, after the experience of these upcoming weekends. Please be patient. If everyone has a positive attitude and we all collaborate we will have a good experience and the Lord will help us all!

Thank you all for your understanding and help,

Sincerely in Christ Jesus,

Fr. Israel J. Rodriguez
Administrator
