The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process which follows the ancient practice of the Church and was restored by the Second Vatican Council as the normal way adults prepare for baptism as well as the adapted process for children and the youth.
RCIA is applied to all unbaptized persons 7 years of age or more who have never been baptized and who need a process to help them grow in awareness to God's call to conversion as well as ways to respond to that call. They are considered catechumens.
In addition, we also have a process by which the Baptized but uncatechized person who is 13 years old of age or older will prepare to celebrate the sacraments of penance, confirmation and Eucharist.
