The Confirmation program for young people is a two-year program.
The Archdiocese of Boston has lowered the normal age of the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation to around the ages of 13-14 (or 8th grade). Therefore, we are offering a new Confirmation program for children in grades 7-8.
This program is for young people in grades 7-12 who have received the Sacrament of Baptism.
The Sacrament of Confirmation completes the baptismal grace and confers the Holy Spirit on the baptized.
Students are prepared to consciously and voluntarily accept the faith and the grace they received at Baptism. They are guided to discover the blessings of a new life in Christ, to become true disciples of Him, and to accept and use the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Class Times There are two options for class days/times:
Teens in grades 7-12 can attend classes on Saturdays from 10:15-11:30 am, beginning September 28. They will receive Confirmation preparation on a weekly basis and will have two retreats per year.
Teens in grades 7-12 can attend the St. Mary's Youth program on Friday afternoons from 4:00-7:00 pm in the gym, beginning September 13. Once a month, the students that are in the Confirmation program will be given a separate class that helps prepare them for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This program is specifically designed for pre-teens and teenagers so that they can get involved with other young people in their age group. They will participate in games, sports, friendship building, and Faith sharing, in addition to being prepared for Confirmation. "Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit - his actions, his gifts, and his biddings - in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life. To this end catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community. The latter bears special responsibility for the preparation of confirmands" (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1309)
